On Saturday, December 20th at 7:30 PM the Music Center of the Northwest will proudly present a concert by Turkish virtuoso musicians. Necati Çelik [ne-ja-tee che-lik] is the principle oud player for the Turkish Ministry of Culture Ensemble. He will be joined by vocalist and percussionist Tumuçin Cevikoğlu [ti-mu-chin je-vi-koh-loo] and ney player Celalettin Biçer [je-la-le-tin bi-cher] currently on tour from Turkey. These three eminent Turkish masters will perform compositions selected from the vast repertoire of Turkish classical and devotional music.
Their performances are marked by extensive improvisations, known as taksims—sometimes freestanding, sometimes performed as introductions, and other times as interludes between pieces. Because of the spontaneous nature of these improvisations, no two performances are ever the same.
