Michael Alstad, brass, bands, conducting
Executive Director Michael Alstad has been involved with music since starting lessons with Wayne Timmerman at age 10. For the past thirty years he has worked with groups and individuals to develop help them develop a lifelong passion for music and performances worthy of recognition. Groups under his direction have received awards for concert, jazz and marching performances in festivals and competitions throughout the world. His individual students have consistently received superior ratings and while teaching in the Province of Saskatchewan, two of his students were named the high school provincial brass champions.
Over the past eighteen years Michael has been involved extensively with community music groups. He has performed as a member of and directed community jazz, concert and musical theater groups in both Canada and the United States. In addition to numerous guest conducting appearances he has appeared on stage in local performances with Louis Bellson, Bill Watrous, Rob McConnel, Clark Terry, Tommy Banks, Lew Soloff, Dave Young and PJ Perry among others. A native of the state of Washington, Michael has both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Eastern Washington University.
