John Allman, voice

John Allman

John has coached singing actors at Village Theatre, Cornish College of the Arts, Washington Academy of Performing Arts and for the Musical Theater Program at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico.  He has music-directed several workshops for Village Originals (the program for developing new musicals at Village Theatre) and led KIDSTAGE productions and classes in Issaquah and Everett.  His approach to vocal technique is a solid basis of breath support while connecting the "chest" and "head" voices, to encompass legit technique or a healthy mix/belt, depending on the individual voice.  He emphasizes a directness of delivery retaining the natural quality of speech.  John graduated from UW in Music History and Theory, where he studied voice and piano privately.

John music-directed A Man of No Importance for Showtunes! at Kirkland Performance Center, and the west coast premiere of Illyria at Redwood Theatre.  He was Associate Music Director for Village Theatre’s premiere production of Little Women in 2008, has played keyboards for VT Mainstage productions (CATS and Evita), and played for Sweeney Todd (Eastside Musical Theater) and Bat Boy (ArtsWest).  As a composer, NYC premieres include vocal and incidental music for Aeschylus’ Agamemnon  and Shakespeare’s Henry V at LaMaMa Experimental Theatre; also a workshop of an original musical based on Alice in Wonderland at the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe,  New Mexico, which was co-sponsored by Santa Fe Opera.
